ธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย (ธปท.) จัดเก็บเอกสารเกี่ยวกับภารกิจของ ธปท. ตั้งแต่เริ่มดำเนินการในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๘๓ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๑๒ ธปท. ได้เชิญผู้เชี่ยวชาญจาก International Executive Service Corps (IESC) เข้ามาปรับปรุงงานจัดการเอกสารของ ธปท. ร่วมกับ “คณะทำงานโครงการปรับปรุงการเก็บรักษาเอกสาร” จากผลของโครงการนี้จึงจัดตั้งหอบรรณสาร โดยแบ่งงานเป็น ๒ ส่วน คือ หอจดหมายเหตุเพื่อเก็บเอกสารที่มีคุณค่าไว้เป็นการถาวร และศูนย์เก็บเอกสารเพื่อเก็บเอกสารรอทำลาย
ในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๑๗ ธปท. อนุมัติให้ก่อตั้งหอจดหมายเหตุภายใต้การดำเนินงานของส่วนการเลขานุการ ฝ่ายธุรการ เพื่อทำหน้าที่เก็บรักษาเอกสารที่มีคุณค่าของ ธปท. และดำเนินงานตามกระบวนการงานจดหมายเหตุ ปัจจุบันหอจดหมายเหตุอยู่ภายใต้การดำเนินงานของหอสมุด จดหมายเหตุ และพิพิธภัณฑ์
หอจดหมายเหตุ ธปท. รวบรวมเอกสารจดหมายเหตุมากกว่า ๑๐๐,๐๐๐ แฟ้ม ประกอบด้วยเอกสารเกี่ยวกับประวัติการก่อตั้งธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เอกสารการดำเนินงานของ ธปท. รายงานการประชุม คณะกรรมการธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เอกสารลายมือ แผ่นพับ พิมพ์เขียว เอกสารต้นฉบับ ภาพถ่าย ฟิล์ม และเอกสารดิจิทัล
Bank of Thailand (BOT) has preserved its important business documents since the foundation of the Bank, dating from 1940 to the present. In 1969, the expert from the International Executive Service Corps (IESC) was invited to work with the Bank’s working group, focusing mainly on “The Reformation of the Bank of Thailand’s Documents Management Project”. The outcome of the project was the setting up of an Archives unit which would responsible for two functions; archiving documents of high value appraised for permanent retention and managing Bank’s records for other documents cited to be kept temporarily prior to their deposition and destruction.
In 1974, the Bank approved on the establishment of “Archives” as a new unit under the supervision of the Secretariat Division, Administrative Services Department; with its role as a custodian of the Bank’s valuable documents permanently kept as archives and later on under the Library Archives and Museum to the present.
BOT Archives holds over 100,000 records of archives collections relating to the Bank of Thailand’s history, past and present main functions and business, the Bank of Thailand Board Meeting Minutes, hand-written documents, loose-leaf, blue prints, charts, hard copy, films photographs, slides and born digital records.
